3M’s Prestige Exterior Window films stop more heat than films installed on the inside of the glass.  For commercial buildings, who typically install window film to reduce the operating costs, exterior films can offer a very rapid Return-On-Investment (ROI), often much better than their interior counterparts.

Exterior window films hold this heat outside the building, allowing it to dissipate into the atmosphere, saving more money and giving a much faster payback. It also virtually eliminates the chance of glass breakage.

Why wouldn’t you install exterior window film on your commercial building or home?

Exterior window is typically used in those situations were window film simply can’t be installed on the interior surface, either because the glass is difficult to access, or because there is a high likelihood of breaking that particular type of glass – wired glass, triple pane, etc.  To date, exterior films are used most often for skylights.

One common question with some of our customers when they call is, ‘Can I get privacy with window tint?’  That is a yes and no answer.

Window tint comes in different shades of gray.  From very dark, to very light, to reflective like a mirror.  During the day the darker the film is the more privacy you will have.  If you use a window tint that is reflective like a mirror, you will have privacy with window tint during the day.   A light colored window film is used more for people who don’t want to have that window tint look, but still want the advantages that window tint gives, such as UV protection and heat protection.

Now one misconception that people have is that at night window tint will give you privacy.  This, my friends, is not true.  In fact we had a customer call that had had window tint put on her home by another dealer and had thought that was the case.  She was mislead by this window film dealer and had been walking around her home naked at night with the curtains open.  Finally one of her neighbors mentioned that she might want to close her curtains at night if she wanted to walk around without her clothes off.  So embarrassed by this she called our offices and told us the story in which we told her that, ‘no, at night she could not get privacy with window tint like she did during the day.’  In fact the only way to do that would be to totally black out the windows or use a decorative film like 3M Fasara line.  We will talk about that line of film at another time.  She was very thankful for our help and honesty.

So remember, if you want daytime privacy there is a window tint out there that can help you, but if you want night time privacy, you might want to stick to pulling shut your curtains or blinds!

From Los Angeles to San Diego, and all over California, here is the importance of safety films when it comes to earthquakes.

Earthquakes are a problem in California and always have been.  Each year in Southern California there are about 10,000 earthquakes, but most of them are so small that they are not felt.  Only several hundred are greater than a magnatude 3.0, and only about 15 to 20 are greater than a magnatude 4.0.  If there is a large earthquake, however, the aftershock sequence will produce many more earthquakes of all magnatudes for many months.

We’ve shown you an example of what it can do for windows in the case of a bomb blast or a break in in previous posts.  The same is true for an earthquake.  When the earth  literaly shakes, rattles, and rolls it causes structures to move and sway resulting, at times, in broken or shattered windows.  Falling glass kills and injures people every year when large earthquakes happen.  Using Safety Films, along with an attachment system, keeps the glass intact thus causing less of a chance that the glass will not shatter, fall, and injure a bystander.

Had they had installed safety film on this glass along with an attachment system, this window would probably still be intact and they wouldn’t be replacing it.  Also, note the glass laying on the ground.  Had there been a bystander walking by at the time of the earthquake the falling peices of glass could of caused major injuries.  So as you can see, Safety Film can make a difference especially in the case of an earthquake.  So there are some facts on earthquakes and the importance of safety film.
